Herbert Stepic visits the Arameras Day Care Centre

On 25 September 2014, Herbert Stepic visited the Day Care Centre Arameras in Albania
(20 km distance from Tirana), to gain some personal impressions on-site. The Day Care Centre was founded by Caritas Albania with the support of the Herbert Stepic CEE Charity. There he also met with the director of Caritas Albania, Albert Nikolla, and his team to talk about their work at the Day Care Centre. Moreover, in the course of his visit, a little welcome ceremony was arranged.

The Day Care Centre for young disabled people has been one of the first projects for the Charity. Thanks to its significant influence, which it has gained in the community due to its support for the people’s well-being, it has become one of the association’s flagship projects. Even Caritas presents the centre as a best-practice-example for education and trainings with regard to its employees. In the centre, disabled people have a chance to work in a safe environment as well as they are supported by disability care workers.

Step by step, the Day Care Centre’s offers were increased. Today, among others, the affected people can take part in tailoring, embroidering, wood work, painting, gardening, job and computer trainings. Thus, the people’s autonomy is gradually heightened.

With sustainability always in mind, the Charity emphasises the continuous contact with local project partners, who are best acquainted with the needs of the affected people. Therefore, Mr. Stepic visited the Day Care Centre on the one hand to get some impressions of the progresses made there, but on the other hand, to get know the adolescents and their counsellors in person.
At a meeting with the adolescents and the Day Care Centre’s staff, he talked with them about the situation of the centre and focused all his attention towards the adolescents. One of these youngsters is Lulzim Basha, a young artist who lives in the Day Care Centre for disabled people. Lulzim has a special talent: he is very good at painting. The special care the Day Care Centre in Arameras grants its residents supports the tailor-made and professional promotion of the disabled people’s talents.
