Ways out of the Ghetto

Together with its cooperation partner Caritas, the H. Stepic CEE Charity supports socially disadvantaged children in the Romanian region Satu Mare and Baia Mare. Four After-School care centres provide vocational training and support Roma children from seven to 14 years.

The main focus of the After-School care centres’ work is clearly put on learning and homework support. Not only do the centres offer support for learning and homework but are also significantly involved in the children’s play and leisure program. Leisure time and sufficient opportunities for play and fun are tremendously important for the development of the children’s personalities. School material is also provided by the after care centres. Education and training projects are of great importance to the Charity and supporting this special project is just a logic consequence to help disadvantaged children and their families. To help the children with the first steps into a career, the after school care centres also offer counselling groups focusing on career guidance. The close contact to their families is guaranteed here as well: counsellors prepare the families how they can support their children with their career choice.

The Charity decided to take over the financing for the current activities of the after school care centres, such as learning and homework support, the costs for daily meals, school material or support through social workers.

The fundraising dinner 2013 held by the H. Stepic CEE Charity was dedicated to this project. Read more on the dinner here.
