Schoolbooks for the school libraries

Already once the H. Stepic CEE Charity supported pupils in the refugee return areas of Bosnia jointly with the Austrian-Bosnian Cultural Association Medo. The Charity is committed to a better education and training for the returnees who live in the area and go to school there - and now once again supports the area.

Promoting education is very important to the H. Stepic CEE Charity which is why the Charity provides books for school libraries in the 15 refugee ‘return areas’ apart from the school equipment it has already donated. Thus, school children in this area are provided with better access to education. The war caused tragic destruction and loss. Some areas are still being rebuilt and people living there are fighting poverty. Many war refugees are nevertheless returning to their former homes. Since the H. Stepic CEE Charity has offered school material for poor families previously, now the focus is on the provision of better scientific literature.

About 200 pupils of the region will profit from the donation scheme and this fulfills at least basic conditions for their improved education. Currently, pupils' education suffers as a result of their parents' poverty. They cannot afford to buy the books and at school there is sometimes only one copy of the requested book. So, the students have to share their books and it often takes weeks until they can borrow the school's copy. To improve these circumstances in the future, a  selection of books will be made together with the teachers and representatives of the local communities.
