In Bosnia-Herzegovina, the H. Stepic CEE Charity together with the Austrian-Bosnian Cultural Association Medo took action to improve the education of pupils, who mainly live in the returning areas of refugees and also go to school there.
The H. Stepic CEE Charity provided school material and school books to several school libraries in the region. So far, 2,250 books were purchased for the libraries, which are part of the literature to be read in school. Moreover, these books are important for the pupils‘education. Volunteers of Medo but also of Raiffeisen BANK in Bosnia have helped to distribute the books and material. Raiffeisen BANK has also supported the initative via various media channels. Thus, more attention was brought to the daily problems of pupils in the returning areas.
But in order to learn something, clever books in the libraries alone will not do it. Further material for the pupils is needed: booklets, pens, drawing pad, water colours, maps of Bosnia-Herzegovina for the Geography lesson or scissors were scarce before. With the support of the Charity, Medo was able to deliver 520 packages with the most important materials to the affected regions.
Because of this support, many pupils were able to attend school. The Charity decided to continue its support because of the fact that the quality of education and the pupils‘joy in learning has improved so much. Further books and school material will be donated in the future.
