Ways out ouf the Ghetto for Girls

More than 500 children receive tutoring and warm meals at four shelters in Satu Mare and Baia Mare (Romania); they can wash their clothes and are provided with new clothes, as well as school supplies. Within three years of launching “Ways out of the ghetto”, we considerably reduced the number of school drop-outs and made the way to an independent future possible for the many children. Without our project, many of them would have been removed from school because of poverty.

Girls and women are still strongly impacted – that’s why the expansion of our initiative is especially aimed at them. “Ways out of the ghetto for girls” offers amongst other things: literacy, parenting, and sex education courses tailored to the 280 girls and 150 young mothers. Through this, both have the chance of an education and a more independent life.

Brigitta*, 34 years old and mother of three, is excited about finally learning how to read and write. As she’s still at the beginning of her literacy course, her children have to help her with her homework. She’s especially happy about the good grades her children obtain. Her daughter Melissa* already knows what she wants to be when she grows up: a nurse. “I’m very proud of her”, says Brigitta, “and she is of me!”

We’re also happy to help Brigitta, Melissa and so many other children and young mothers through our projects and to provide them with a better education and a more independent life. Help us to accompany the girls and young women on their journey!
