Day care centre Srebrenica, B&H
The H. Stepic CEE Charity builds a new day care centre in Srebrenica. The overall project is carried out in cooperation between "Hilfswerk Austria" and "Butterlfy", a non-governmental, non-profit and multiethnic humanitarian organisation that is the only organisation in the Birca region to offer services and support to children and juveniles with a diverse range of disabilities. The need for care institutions in this region is substantial, particularly considering the effects of the war which took place in the 1990s. Besides their disabilities, many of these children show different forms of accompanying disorders, such as behaviour or emotional disorders or traumatisation. As a result of the children’s negative experiences during the war and their permanently damaged health, professional and accompanying therapy is very important.
The population of this region – resident or returning – still suffers under arduous living conditions, with many persons living on the edge of hunger. Due to their difficult economic situations, many families are very poor and cannot offer their children the support and opportunities associated with "normal conditions". The percentage of children living with only one parent is particularly high. Butterfly's beneficiaries include, amongst others, eight families in which either a child and/or a parent is suffering from a disability.
This project's realization will sustainably improve the quality of Butterfly’s support services and allow it to provide assistance to a larger number of persons. | |
