Sponsorship assumed in the "Doctors for Disabled" project The H. Stepic CEE Charity assumed the sponsorship of five young persons being helped by Austria’s "Doctors for Disabled" project. For example: Sponsorship for Marko, a six year old boy suffering from cerebral palsy. He lives together with six family members in circumstances that are difficult from both a social and material point of view. His parents do not have permanent employment and Marko’s condition requires constant therapeutic care. As the treatments that Marko requires are not available in his hometown of Nevesinje (Bosnia and Herzegovina), the family must travel regularly to Mostar to make use of the services provided by that city’s "Holy family" centre. The H. Stepic CEE Charity’s help has ensured that Marko gets more than one treatment per week. Marko’s health condition has already improved significantly and the family’s material situation has also improved, making it possible for Marko’s parents to provide him with better nourishment. Sponsorship for Sanja, a young woman suffering from the RETT syndrome. Sanja lives with her mother in a small, uncomfortable flat that was provided to them by the local health centre for temporary use. Sanja’s health condition requires constant nursing care and assistance in moving, dressing and bathing, as well as in her socialization. The family’s material situation is also extremely difficult as they have to live from a meagre social assistance and nursing allowance. With the help of the H. Stepic CEE Charity, Sanja’s material situation has improved. Her mother is now able to provide Sanja with better nutrition and to purchase medication that can improve her health condition. Sponsorship for Željko, a young man, who has been a paraplegic since a car accident in 1987. Željko lives with his parents and his brother in a two-room flat that had not been adapted to meet a disabled person’s needs. The family’s material status is average, but still insufficient for the family to take care of a disabled person. The H. Stepic CEE Charity’s help made it possible to remove the architectural barriers in the house and to install a handicap lift. As a result, Željko is now able to move around much more independently. Željko is very grateful for the help he regularly receives from the H. Stepic CEE Charity and hopes this help will soon enable him to start an independent life. He bought a new computer and improved his English skills attending a language course.
