In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, the H. Stepic CEE Charity, together with Caritas and the local relief organisation Social Service, initiated a project to help children in need. The H. Stepic CEE Charity is financing one of the three houses the orphanage being erected on property belonging to the city of Kharkiv. Each house can accommodate up to 10 children aged 3 to 18, as well as one or two resident caretakers. By making it possible for numerous children to live in a much nicer environment than they would experience if living in a state orphanage (which are overstrained and underfinanced), this initiative will significantly improve the overall living situation of these children. The orphanage’s campus also includes a primary school, as well as a carpenter’s workshop in which the youths can receive vocational training. All of the orphanage’s furniture will be self-made. Cooking and tailoring classes will also be offered. | |
